Ever heard of Zululand, Shakaland or maybe King Shaka? South Africa
with its numerous provinces offers one an opportunity to witness not
just Cape Town, Kruger National Park and the arriving and departing
terminals at either Johannesburgh or Cape Town.
With
numerous provinces to journey to why not contemplate Zululand Natal
South Africa. The area boasts of the most spectacular scenery, culture
and of the oldest reserves in Africa. Natal may be divided into central
Durban and surrounds, the South Coast ( Dolphin Coast ) and then the
North Coast ( Zululand ).
With tropical weather year round one may
travel 12 months of the year with out feeling winter. Summer in
Zululand becomes quite warm however still bearable. Quite humid in
Summer from January to end of March.
Natal mostly known for its
rich Zulu culture has remained numerous cultural practises are still
adhered to today and in the more rural areas one will quickly see just
how the practises are still continuing still to present day.
The
infrastructure roads, comunications and accommodation are well
maintained once again offering easy access to all areas in the province.
Arriving
at Durban International one has numerous choices to either travel to
the big city get settled and find ones bearings, however with a bit of

on the N2 turn left at Dokodweni Toll Plaza onto the R66/Melmoth/Ulundi
road.

Shakaland travel north to Empangeni towards St Lucia, the first world
heritage site in South Africa. This area has so much to offer. A real
wildlife paradise where the Hippo's still roam the residential streets
at night in search of greener pastures. The elusive Leopard is still
witnessed by the late night fisherman or just by chance while roaming
around. Guided walks, Sunset boat cruises to witness Hippo's and
Crocodiles, snorkel and enjoy a traditional barbeque at Cape Vidal the
Eastern Shores of iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, Night Drive Safari to go
insearch of that elusive Leopard and Elephants on the Western shores of
iSimangaliso Wetlands Park or merely relax on the beach and witness the
Humpback Whales as they migrate past the shores of St Lucia.
From
St Lucia travel 54km inland and one enters the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game
Reserve the oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa. The big 5 and more may
be encountered in this reserve, smaller that its competitor Kruger
National Park this park is only 96000 hectares however with easier
access and numerous vanatage points one may be just lucky and get to see
all the African animals that you have travelled so far for.
