Why Not Visit Sao Paulo, Brazil?

For a person looking to get away on vacation for a week or two, an often overlooked but amazing tourist spot is Sao Paulo. While many people have never even thought of vacationing here, the ones that have absolutely fall in love with the city. From the culture, to the special events, to the five star accommodations, there is something for everyone.
Where is Sao Paulo? It lies on the eastern coast of Brazil and is in fact one of the largest cities in the world. By population, it ranks number as the number seven most populous city in the world, and is the largest city in the southern hemisphere. It is a one of the largest business hubs in South America, and holds many, many special events.
What can a person expect in Sao Paulo? Architecturally, the city is an eclectic mix of old and new, blending together nicely. There are buildings that have been standing for hundreds of years paired next to modern style, modern looking skyscrapers. As far as the people, the city is mainly Portuguese speaking with a hint of Italian thrown in.
One thing Sao Paulo is known for is its influx of special events. There are typically upwards of ninety thousand events going on in the course of a given year, so there really is an activity for anyone to enjoy. Some of the biggest activities are a pancake cook-off, fashion week, an international film festival. There is always something going on in here, so much in fact that if a person finds himself or herself bored, they're doing something wrong.
The municipal theater opened back in 1911 and is still home to performances today.
Paulista Avenue is one of the most famous roads in Sao Paulo. Spanning 1.75 miles, it shows off the landscape and is home to many large banking, chambers of commerce, and company headquarters as well as cultural centers and shopping malls.
It is no secret that Brazilians like soccer (what everyone else calls "football"), and Sao Paulo is full of pubs to watch as many soccer matches as you want. In particular, Rhino Pub is known for its 150 inch screen (for watching soccer, of course!).
Want to relax? Visit Ibirapuera Park. Popular amongst both tourists and locals, it provides a place to meet with friends or just relax and gaze out at the lakes. Have a picnic, ride your bike on one of the bike paths, or visit the roller skating rink and then stop at a food vendor afterward for a snack.
There are many museums (over one hundred!) and galleries in this Brazilian city, as well as parks, zoos, and even an aquarium. If a person finds sports a bit more entertaining than the arts, then they will feel right at home as well. As mentioned above, it is a huge soccer city, and as a matter of fact, Sao Paulo is hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
For a person looking for a unique vacation spot, Sao Paulo is definitely a place worth checking out. It is a very large city, but there is so much to do that a person should never have an opportunity to get bored. There are hundreds of restaurants, museums, and events that can appeal to even the most discerning vacation. Sao Paulo definitely qualifies as a place that everyone should visit once.
